Digital Switchover

What is the digital switchover?

In 2017 BT announced plans to turn off their analogue telephone network and switch over to a faster digital system. Work has already started and BT plans to switch the old network off permanently in 2025. This change will affect everyone who uses a landline telephone and therefore will affect our customers as our Careline alarms connect via the telephone.

Please see our handy Digital Switchover leaflet below for the latest information.

Already switched over to digital?

Your broadband engineer may or may not have plugged your careline alarm into your new digital router so that it will work. If they didn’t, this is what you need to do;

You will need to unplug the Vi from the old BT telephone socket (as this will be cut off by BT) and plug it into the telephone port in the router (please see video below). The landline phone then needs plugging into the Vi unit via the white adaptor.

If you struggle with this then we suggest you ask a friend, neighbour, or family member for help. Alternatively, you can speak to the Careline Team who can guide you through the process over the phone.

If your engineer has left your Careline alarm unplugged and you are unhappy with the service provided we encourage you to make your provider aware by following the steps outlined within their complaints process. Details of how to do this can be found on their website, by speaking to their customer services department or on the back on any bills.

Step 1

Step 2

Plug the supplied telephone lead into the back of the Careline Alarm.

Step 3

Plug the other end of the telephone lead into the back of your router in the phone port.

Step 4

Plug your telephone into the adaptor and then into the back of your Careline Alarm.

*Please note that if you have a digital telephone you will not need to plug your telephone into the adaptor.

Step 5

Test your alarm by pressing your pendant or by pressing the help button on your Careline Alarm. Once connected notify them you are just testing the alarm.
